Job Purpose

The Trucking Manager is responsible for overseeing the overall operations, financial performance, and strategic direction of the trucking company. The role ensures efficient fleet utilization, compliance with transportation regulations, profitability of operations, and delivery of high-quality service to customers.

Job Description

1. Manage the day-to-day operations of the trucking company.
2. Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency, productivity, and profitability.
3. Evaluate the fair market value of trucks for acquisition, disposal, insurance, financial reporting, and asset management purposes.
4. Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs to ensure fleet reliability and maximize vehicle lifespan.
5. Manage fleet utilization, truck availability, and replacement planning.
6. Plan and coordinate driver scheduling, dispatching, route assignments, and manpower allocation.
7. Supervise recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and discipline of drivers and operations personnel.
8. Monitor driver compliance with company policies, safety standards, and government transportation regulations.
9. Prepare and analyze operational costs, trucking rates, pricing, profitability, and financial performance of each truck and route.
10. Develop budgets, control operating expenses, and identify opportunities for cost savings.
11. Monitor fuel consumption, maintenance costs, tire management, repairs, and other fleet operating expenses.
12. Ensure compliance with all permits, licenses, insurance requirements, and regulatory standards.
13. Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, contractors, and government agencies.
14. Investigate operational issues, customer complaints, vehicle incidents, and implement corrective actions.
15. Prepare regular management reports covering fleet performance, utilization, maintenance status, revenue, costs, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
16. Identify opportunities for business growth, fleet expansion, process improvements, and operational innovation.
17. Ensure high standards of customer service while maintaining safe, reliable, and efficient transportation operations.

Job Dimensions

●Proficient in financial analysis, budgeting, cost control, and profitability management.
●Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
●Proficient in Microsoft Excel and fleet management or transportation management systems.
●Knowledge of preventive maintenance planning, truck lifecycle management, and safety compliance is an advantage.

Qualifications

Education:

● Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).

Experience:

● At least 5 years of experience in trucking, transportation, logistics, or fleet management, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.

● Strong knowledge of trucking operations, fleet maintenance, vehicle valuation, transportation regulations, and driver management.
